Fan Fiction started out as a collaboration between songwriter Steven Rossan and multi-instrumentalist Lucien LaMotte. The duo recorded some songs with producer Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Laura Veirs, Long Winters, Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens) and shortly afterwards were soon joined by bassist Bo Gililand, drummer Paul Culala, and guitarist William Bernhard.
